Build a Scary Halloween Maze Room
Halloween Maze Room – The Hanging Heads
Well friends, here is your first scare room that you can place in your homemade haunted maze. I call it the hanging heads. Head down to Wal-Mart, or the nearest Halloween Store, and buy 3 glowing masks. Mine are aliens, and have a hood on them also. These should be rigid plastic masks, and they must glow in the dark.
The actor will wear one of the masks, and then hold the other 2 at head level as far apart as possible. You can also hang 2 of the masks with fishing line. The idea is to be able to stand in the middle, or stand to the side of the other 2 hanging masks, creating the illusion that there are 3 monsters standing there. Make sure you place this scare in the corner of a room, and have the actor wearing one of the masks stand on a black mat on the floor. This mat will disguise the actor’s shoes, and not allow the audience to see their feet or legs.
When the audience comes by, they will see these 3 masks hanging at the same heighth, and have no idea which of the masks is the true monster. This is a very frightening effect. Make sure the room is dimly lit with a black light, and keep the fog going in this room. The audience will literally be standing 12 inches from the actor and not see them. As they are getting close to passing the hanging heads, all you need to do is lean forward wearing one of the masks, and you will scare the audience to death. They won’t believe how close they were to the actor without seeing him.
An alternative method is to hold the other 2 masks in your hand at head heighth, and move them all towards the audience at the same time. It will look like 3 monsters are coming at them. This is very frightening, and will ensure your haunted maze gets great reviews.
