Having reluctantly been a large sized person for some time, I have become grateful that there are so many more larger and more wonderful selections available at every price level. There was a time where sewing your own was an only option. One of these times was for a Halloween costume. Now, the choices are some much wider. I would suggest, however, that if you know what couture you want, try to buy it as early as possible. Plus sizes are still made in more limited amounts, and the earlier you can purchase, the more choice you will have.
Several national stores that I am aware of have a fairly wide and updated selection of costumes. A store to definitely visit, even if you are not buying is Spirit Costume stores. Spirit Costume stores are usually open just during the Halloween season, but they have a year round on-line shop as well at www.spiritcostume.com. You can check out the on-line and the store outlets to see what is available. Pirate costumes, flower children outfits, vampire outfits, angels, devils, magicians and wizards, witches and warlocks are all popular this year and available. Spirit Costumes also has a section for sexy costumes that some other stores lack. I also like to look for a costume that will hold up for more than one season. And don’t forget about looking into sewing an original costume for yourself. I don’t sew well, but my kids loved having costumes that no one else had a school. Even if someone had made the same costume, it was always a little different. You might still have time to hire someone to help you out if you act soon.
