Where To Find Plus Size Costumes For Halloween
Having reluctantly been a large sized person for some time, I have become grateful that there are so many more larger and more wonderful selections available at every price level. There was a time where sewing your own was an only option. One of these times was for a Halloween costume. Now, the choices are some much wider. I would suggest, however, that if you know what couture you want, try to buy it as early as possible. Plus sizes are still made in more limited amounts, and the earlier you can purchase, the more choice you will have.
Several national stores that I am aware of have a fairly wide and updated selection of costumes. A store to definitely visit, even if you are not buying is Spirit Costume stores. Spirit Costume stores are usually open just during the Halloween season, but they have a year round on-line shop as well at www.spiritcostume.com. You can check out the on-line and the store outlets to see what is available. Pirate costumes, flower children outfits, vampire outfits, angels, devils, magicians and wizards, witches and warlocks are all popular this year and available. Spirit Costumes also has a section for sexy costumes that some other stores lack. I also like to look for a costume that will hold up for more than one season. If you like a certain time period or theme, say, pirates, you can mix and match for future years by adding parts of costumes or accessories. Spirit Costumes has a great accessory are as well, to spice of your costume choice and your home as well.
Another national store I have had good success with is Party Planet. Party Planet is a year round store that features Halloween Costumes in the fall. It sells items to plan a theme parties all year long and has a wide selection of adult plus size costumes. It also has an on-line store at www.partyplanet.com so you can check before you shop. The costumes at Party Planet are trendy for all of them go along with the current party themes. You may have trouble finding a Tudor era costume here, but you will have no problem finding vampire, fifties or eighties costumes. I have also found it a great help to have party theme decorations and tableware all in one place. This store will give you great ideas for parties and Halloween in general.
Some of the national stores such as WalMart, Target, ToysRUs and K-Mart also have a selection of adult plus size costumes. Most of these, however, need to be ordered on-line and are limited. You can also check out the stores for these costumes. If you can find something you like, WalMart definitely leads the costume price wars. Another option is Disney stores, although most of their costumes are for kids. Remember, though, Disney has “mommy” and “daddy” clothes all year round that look like great costumes to me. Of course, E-bay and Amazon and other big on-line stores will also have a limited selection of costume. Unfortunately, large size stores don’t usually feature costumes.
There are also multiple on-line buying options all over the internet. I would recommend dealing only with those companies that you know. And don’t forget about looking into sewing an original costume for yourself. I don’t sew well, but my kids loved having costumes that no one else had a school. Even if someone had made the same costume, it was always a little different. You might still have time to hire someone to help you out if you act soon. Going to a fabric store to shop for Halloween can be loads of fun. Now get out there and find your hidden persona!

Cheap Halloween Costumes – Family Fun For The Halloween Season
{thumbnail}
Halloween is a time for celebration. It is at that point in the year where the nights are drawing in and it is becoming colder. This festival marks the coming of winter. It can be expensive to dress up, so why not make some cheap Halloween costumes.
The classic costume is of course the ghost. What better use could there be for that old white sheet. It is quick and easy to make and does not need any special sewing skills. All you need is the sheet, a pair of scissors, a marker pen and some safety pins.
In addition it would help if the child was wearing white clothes underneath and had white gloves and shoes. You just need to drape the sheet over the child‘s head and mark out a hem. It should not drape on the ground in case the child falls over it, but should easily clear the ground.
Then mark where their arms come to so that it can be cut so that they can move their arms easily. Very carefully mark where their eyes are. Take off the sheet and cut where you have marked. You should allow quite large eye holes so that they are not in any danger of not being able to see, and a bit of black make up around the eyes would add nicely to the effect.
You may want to use some safety pins to hold it all together. Once they are dressed in white and have their sheet in place then they will look like a very traditional ghost. This will have cost pennies to make.
There are lots of great costumes that can easily be made with a very small amount of effort. Start off with an easy one, then let your imagination run riot. Your kids will soon be the scariest on the block. Cheap Halloween costumes can be fun for the whole family to make.

How to Find Cheap Halloween Costumes on Craigslist
Whether you are a parent looking to outfit your kid for Halloween or if you are an adult who wants an awesome costume for a Halloween party, expect to spend a pretty penny. If you don’t have that extra money to spend, I recommended Craigslist. You might be surprised how many unique costumes you can find at an affordable price.
So, how can you find these costumes?
To get started, visit Craigslist.org. Choose your location by selecting your state and nearest city. Over on the left-hand side of the page, you will see a search box. Your searches are automatically set to search “for sale” items. All you need to do is enter in a search phrase. For the best results, use nothing more than the words “Halloween” or “costume.”
After submitting your search, you will see a list of headlines. Most sellers are descriptive here, meaning you should be able to tell right away whether the costume is for a baby, toddler, child, teenager, or adult. You should also get some idea what the costume is about, like Mickey Mouse or a cheerleader.
Once you find a costume (based on the headline) you think you’d like, click for more information. Inside, you should see a picture, a brief description of the costume’s condition, and a method of contact. If you like what you see, use the provided phone number or email address. Around this time, cheap Halloween costumes are in high demand, so you want to act quick.
For the most part, buying Halloween costumes from Craigslist is a great way to save money. Not only that, you are likely to find some like-new costumes. Think about it, most people (especially children) wear a costume once. The only wear and tear you may notice is some slight discoloring or fading from a couple of washes.
In short, not only can you find cheap Halloween costumes on Craigslist, but you can find unique costumes too. If unique is what you are looking for, that woman who came across her Halloween costume from 15 years ago and listed it on Craigslist may have just what you need!
Note: When looking for unique, hard-to-find, or vintage Halloween costumes, your best option is to use a Craigslist search tool. These search apps let you search multiple locations with one search. For a unique, hard-to-find, or vintage costume, you may need to drive an hour or two for pickup or arrange for the seller to ship the costume to your home.

Halloween contacts can add a lot of impact to your Halloween costume. People who wear corrective contact lenses often experiment with costume lenses as well. But if you don’t wear contacts on an everyday basis, would Halloween costume lenses be safe and comfortable for you?
What are Halloween contacts lenses?
Halloween lenses, also called costume or theatrical lenses, are soft contact lenses with a layer of color embedded in them. Top quality costume lenses are produced by the companies that also manufacture ordinary (corrective) contact lenses. To ensure that painted special effect lenses are safe, manufacturers use special paints that don’t irritate the delicate surface of your eye.
There are hundreds of different designs: cat’s eyes, snake eyes, spirals, white-out and black-out lenses, banshee, vampire red, and many more besides.
Quality special effect contacts are comfortable for most people. In fact, if the lens is properly fitted, you shouldn’t feel it at all. Soft contact lenses don’t have any adjustment period and generally feel comfortable in your eyes straight away. However, if you don’t wear contact lenses every day, you might want to order your costume contacts in advance and wear them for a few hours each day, several days before the party.
Costume lenses might get a bit less comfortable as the day goes on. The reason is that they can’t be as thin as clear corrective lenses – the opaque color layer adds extra thickness – so the lens doesn’t let enough oxygen get to your eyes. It is recommended not to wear them for longer than 8 hours. And you should always take them out before going to bed.
Do I need doctor’s prescription to get special effect lenses?
It might sound silly, but you do. Corrective or not, costume lenses are medical devices, and even though most people can wear them without problems, you should consult your eye doctor and get a prescription. Also ask the doctor how to put your costume lenses in and take them out. All brand name special effect contacts come with clear instructions, about putting them in and taking them out, but it takes a bit of practice.
Where can I get Halloween costume contact lenses?
After getting your prescription comes the time to buy your lenses. You can order them through the doctors office, but this is the most expensive option. You would save a lot if you purchased your Halloween lenses from an online contact lens retailer instead. Just make sure that the shop is reputable and specializes on contact lenses, not just Halloween costumes.
If you are wondering if it is all too much trouble, I would say go for it. Without eyes to match, a costume just doesn’t look complete.
