Top Ten Halloween Songs
Halloween is upon us. That means it is time to break out those Halloween songs – if you have any Halloween songs. Just what songs can we play that are appropriate for Halloween? Here are the top ten Halloween songs that seem to be played at Halloween parties and around Halloween.
10. The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
It’s a silly song from an odd show. It’s supposedly a scary show and also comedy. The Time Warp is a fun dance for all to do and appropriate for teens and adults due to some of the words in it. Yet, the lyrics and the idea of the Rocky Horror Picture Show are a great Halloween treat.
9. Don’t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult
Since Halloween is often a time to make light of scary things and of silly things related with death, Don’t Fear the Reaper is a great song. It is saying not to fear The Grim Reaper or to fear death itself. Being that there’s a lot of the word “baby,” and does mention that everybody has to die, some parents may not want children to listen to this song.
8. Witchy Woman by the Eagles
This is definitely one of the Halloween classics. The song seems to be all about a witch, so it is a great Halloween song. Most ages can listen to this song, but there may be a bit that some parents do not want their young children to hear.
7. Little Red Riding Hood by Sam “The Sham” and the Pharaohs
While it is not really a “Halloween song,” the music is perfect for Halloween. It gives that spooky feeling. It is also a bit scary because of the lyrics. After all, Little Red Riding Hood is being pursued by the Wolf. This is, of course, a guy wanting to be with a girl. However, children are going to recall the story of Little Red Riding Hood. There’s nothing inappropriate in the song, either, so it’s a great Halloween song for all ages.
6. Ghostbusters from Ghostbusters
What person doesn’t relate ghosts to Halloween? The theme from Ghostbusters is a perfect song for Halloween. Everybody seems to know it. It’s simple and even young children love to sing the song.
5. Casper the Friendly Ghost from Casper the Friendly Ghost
Sure, it’s a fun little tune. However, it is quite appropriate for younger children. We do not want to leave out the younger listeners. Besides, who does not like the idea of having a ghost as a friend?
4. Judy in Disguise with Glasses by John Fred and His Playboy Band
The song does not make much sense. After all, it is a song making fun of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. However, it is perfect for Halloween as Judy is in Disguise. This song does contain the word “bra,” but there is nothing that children really should not hear in it.
3. Jeepers Creepers by Louis Armstrong (written by Harry Warren and Johnny Mercer)
Of course the song is all about somebody’s eyes. Still, it tends to be a Halloween classic. The idea of either singing to a being with odd eyes or somebody who has just seen a ghost is quite appealing. It is another song appropriate for all ages.
2. Love Potion Number Nine by The Clovers
Love Potion Number Nine is a song all about how things went wrong when somebody asked a gypsy for advice. Being that the song is all about somebody who drank a potion to try to solve a problem, it makes for a great Halloween song. It is also a very funny song appropriate for all ages.
1. Monster Mash by Bobby “Boris” Pickett
Monster Mash is another of those classic Halloween songs. It is probably the first song that comes to mind for many people when they are asked to think of Halloween songs. Who wouldn’t think of a song all about dancing with monsters as a Halloween song? After all , it is sang by a mad scientist about his monster he was working on in his lab. Plus, the music is quite fitting for Halloween.

Ideas for Halloween Treats
Article by Simon G Burke
Halloween’s coming up soon, and now’s the best time to start planning. And if you’re like most people, the menu is probably the first thing on your mind. It’s true that planning the Halloween table can be tricky—you want something the kids will love, but you don’t want to leave out older guests either. How can you plan a Halloween menu that will appeal to everyone and fit your budget? It’s a lot easier than you think—here are some suggestions to help you out.
A big candy bowl
If you’re holding a party for kids, save them the trouble of trick-or-treating and give them a giant bowl of treats. Just got a big container and fill it with sweets of all kinds. You can also add some fruit and toys to fill it out, as well as add color. Look for a stylish container that can work as a centerpiece—you can use an old bottle or glass box, or just wrap some black and orange ribbon around a big clear bowl.
Halloween cupcakes
Everyone’s got a sweet tooth, and there’s no better time to indulge than at Halloween. If you want something more filling than candy, try making Halloween cupcakes. You can just get store-bought cakes and decorate them yourself if you’re in a hurry. Use colored frosting and candy toppers to create all sorts of designs, such as monsters, bugs, mummies and witches. It’s a lot easier than it seems, and you can even get your kids to design their own!
A pumpkin bowl
Many people consider pumpkin soup a staple for Halloween parties. This is especially true in cold places, where October starts getting chilly and a bowl of hot soup just really fits the occasion. Make your own jack-o-lantern bowl by hollowing out a pumpkin and baking it until it’s hard and crisp. It looks nice on your table and adds a definite Halloween theme to your party.
Finger food platter
Halloween parties tend to be casual, so finger foods and appetizers make a good fit. Prepare a bunch of different finger foods and arrange them creatively on stylish platters. Use a bunch of small colorful bowls for the dips. You can make some of them in advance—just freeze them and reheat each platter just before serving.
Out of ideas for this year’s Halloween party? Chances are you just need a bit of creativity. Here are some suggestions you might want to try out.
Hot Halloween Costumes
Every Halloween, there are a few costumes that end up being the “hot” costume idea for that year. Occasionally, the hot Halloween costume idea is dependent on a character from the year’s high grossing summer motion picture. Sometimes it is based on the breakout celebrity of the brand new television show. Sometimes, the hot costume is even a politician.
At this time, this year’s Halloween season has not been happening that long but the early on leaders for the hot Halloween costumes appear to be Rhianna and Snooki. Barack Obama outfits are also anticipated to be well-known once again, as they have been in ’08 and ’09. Costumes of sitting presidents do often maintain recognition during their time in office. For some individuals it is to be able to celebrate the sitting leader and for other folks it is like a pure scary and horror idea.
Former presidents from Richard Nixon through George W. Bush are Halloween costumes for this reason, years after they have left the position.
Once a Halloween costume idea becomes the hot thought for a Halloween night season or two, it is likely to become a choice of the Halloween party season after that. For example, Howdy Doody costumes are still popular, despite the fact that Howdy Doody has been gone from the airwaves since the fifties.
Alien and Star Trek themed costumes are also perennial favorites and have been now for many years. Captain Kirk, Mr Spock, Scottie as well as Lt Uhuru, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Single, Obi–wan Kenobi, R2D2, and also C3PO are all annual guests at Halloween parties all over.
But probably the most typical Halloween costumes still are those which build on the design of ghouls and goblins.
The ghost costume might be an old linen with a few holes cut out for the eye balls. And of course, the witches; Elvira, Mistress of the Dark is definitely a popular adult Halloween costume.
Halloween and Halloween costumes are intended to have fun with. The fun might be in poking fun at themselves, or it might be in laughing at political figures and TV personalities through mocking them. Fortunately for everybody, the idea of making fun of public figures can fall under fair use guidelines.

Keep the Spirit of Halloween Alive at Your Party with Halloween Cards
Halloween affords everyone an opportunity to dress like someone else and indulge in the creepy. Adults as well as children want to get together with friends and celebrate the spookiest day of the year. So, with that in mind, they often plan Halloween parties. With Halloween cards, you can let everyone know the details of your party ahead of time so they know what to wear and when to come.
Halloween stems from an old Celtic holiday called Samhain, which was celebrated from sunset to sunrise to mark the shortening of the days and the end of the harvest. It was believed that on this day the barrier between our world and the otherworld thinned in certain places, leaving portals open for a short time through which the Tuatha de Danann (old Celtic gods) and the spirits of the dead could travel.
The holiday has since evolved into the celebration that we know today as Halloween.
Nowadays, Halloween is looked forward to by most people as an excuse to have a party, put pumpkin in everything, and try to scare each other silly with freakish costumes. Some people truly revel in the horror movies and love to wear a bloody mask and creep around without letting anyone know who they are. Regardless of how you celebrate, though, you’ll need to include some important information on your Halloween cards.
You will have to include the date on your Halloween cards since you may be celebrating on a convenient Saturday instead of the day of the actual holiday. Also, you will want to make sure that your guests know if there is a theme or a contest. A costume competition is a good way to encourage your guests to actually dress up, instead of just showing up for the food.
If you are having a Disney or a Tim Burton theme for your Halloween party, you’ll want your guests to know so that they can pick a good costume.
Halloween is a tradition of spookiness that stretches back thousands of years and the modern version keeps the creepy going. Halloween cards let everyone know about your event so that you can celebrate the holiday in style.
