Halloween Costume Idea: Dress Like a Dress

Are you tired of the same old boring Halloween costumes? There’s no doubt that the conventional themes have been overdone. After all, how many witches, ghosts, goblins, and monsters do you really want to see?

Why not take a different approach this Halloween season and dress like a genius? You can make a unique statement that people will notice. Here are some ideas for dressing like a genius this Halloween:

Dress up like Einstein

You’ll make quite a statement when you emerge in your Albert Einstein costume. Make sure you have a gray wig with disheveled hair and some nondescript, baggy clothing. To add to the mood you’ll want to wear a cape with some of Einstein‘s physics formulas painted on them. A gray stick on mustache should complete the look. Imagine the fun of being Einstein for a day!

Dress up like a modern computer geek.

You probably already know the look but if you need help, you may want to search the internet for some close up photos of real life computer geeks. Be sure to wear the requisite bifocals and carry a bag of cheetos with you to the party. To add to the effect, why not wear two different colored shoes and socks and a t-shirt that says, “I love technology”?

Dress up like a learned philosopher from the past.

Some suggestions might be Aristotle, Plato, or Descartes. Although there are no photographs to pattern your costume after, you probably have a pretty good idea in your mind of how these great minds might have looked. You’ll probably want to wear a long tunic with sandals and sport a gray beard. Be sure to dazzle everyone with great thoughts and sayings such as, “I think, therefore I am”.

Dress up like a mad scientist.

This one should be pretty easy. You’ll want to apply stiff hair pomade to your hair to get it to stand straight up. Put on some huge bifocals and choose an unmatched, disheveled set of clothing. To add to the effect, carry some test tubes and flasks in your hand. Try to look completely preoccupied.

Dress up like a valedictorian.

Just because you graduated last in your class, doesn’t mean you can’t be a valedictorian for a day. Wear the standard cap and gown that graduates wear along with the headpiece and tassel. Wear a large pin that states you’re the top graduate. Try to look intellectual and serious.

Dressing up like a genius on Halloween is a great way to break out of the stereotypical, spooky Halloween image. Why not do something different this Halloween?

Ever Thought About a Vampire Halloween Costume Idea

There is never a right or a wrong time to start thinking about Halloween and who or what you are going to be; or what your outfit might consist of this year. I realise that pretty much anything goes these days, but what about a vampire Halloween costume to give everybody a scare and get their bones rattling too?

Let us be honest, we all love the festivities that 31st October entails. It gives us such a fantastic chance to let out the actors and actresses that are there lurking inside all of us and really get into character. During this special time the Celts truly believed that both good and evil spirits would pass from their world into ours. So, whilst they were happy to offer food, hospitality and a welcome to the good guys; Celts would wear scary costumes to keep the bad ones away.

This is where the frightening and grotesque side of the costumes we wear today originates from, especially skeletons as the Celts truly believed that they would protect people wearing that type of thing from evil. If you looked like one of the bad spirits then they would leave you well alone for being one of the gang. So, there is far more meaning to wearing a frightening Halloween costume than you might have imagined or maybe even knew.

Of course, over time and with other influences from other cultures around the world and film and theatre we have so many ideas and options open to us when it comes to dressing up and why not? It really is the taking part that counts but, to really involve a little history and incorporate it in your costume makes the idea behind what you are wearing really symbolic.

So, whether you are out and about knocking on doors collecting your wonderful treats or bobbing for apples at a party, there is so much fun to be had. Getting into character, putting on a costume and looking good is such an integral part of the celebrations even if, you like me had not always been fully aware of the reasons behind why we have always done it.
