Planning A Halloween Event in Your Front Garden
Adults as well as children celebrate Halloween in many unusual ways. Take for example, a lady in Detroit, who waits for the school bus to leave her house on the morning of Halloween. She then sets to work on her front garden. When the bus returns the children are amazed to see it transformed with gravestones, monsters and ghosts.
This new trend in front garden decoration, attracts trick or treat visitors to these houses especially if the house has built up a reputation over the years. And our lady finds that instead of having a handful of visitors on Halloweens eve, she gets over 300. The other effect is that other homeowners in the neighborhood also start to do the same. Pretty soon the whole street is transformed into a Halloween occasion.
Perhaps the fascination is that on this one night of the year, we become more aware of the supernatural and the power it carries. There is no other time where you could put up this type of creepy decoration and not have the police coming round to investigate.
Where do you start? Well if you are a planner, then you could imagine your garden as the setting for a series of short scenes from a play. You could start with what first attracts kids. Then, as they walk up the pathway, what do they see or hear? Could you arrange something moving in your window?
Now they ring your front door bell. Who answers it and how do they answer it? Do you see the possibilities? You could actually frighten them more than they could you.
One couple set up four live actors in the garden path to their front door. One was dressed in black, one as a mummy and so on. One controlled a buzzer sound so that when people got near, they were buzzed. She got many screams with that one. So think outside the box this Halloween and set up an event you can really enjoy, in a creepy sort of way.

If you’re a mom gifted with turning out fantastic costumes from pieces of cloth, then your problems are solved. For those who are not as fortunate, there are some online websites that will give you ideas on how to create your own cool Halloween costume using things you can easily buy or find around the house. One of the easiest costumes you could use for your little girl is an old colorful dress that you can recycle into a style that was popular in the 60s. Add some long bead necklaces, a wig, and you have your little girl in retro outfit.
Another cool Halloween costumes idea is the Mummy. Just wrap your child in white bandages, and put some white make up on the face. Splotch some green paint to make the costume look moldy. You should teach your kid to walk with a “stiff leg” to complete the picture.
Older children usually would want to choose their own costumes. Usually boys would prefer to go as Harry Potter, while girls prefer to be dressed up as a fairy or a princess. It is quite easy to find these common Halloween costumes for kids in department stores as well as online stores.
When choosing Halloween costumes for infants or toddlers, you would have to consider safety and comfort for your child. If the costume comes with a mask, make sure it does not totally block his eyesight, and there is still enough room for him to breathe. Halloween costumes with hoods can be quite warm and uncomfortable, so choose the ones that will allow your child to move freely.
You can dress your child in his or her favorite animal or cartoon character outfit. For animal outfits, the most popular ones are ladybug, lion, panda, and butterfly. For cartoon characters, kids would often choose to come as the latest Disney figure like Buzz Lightyear and Mulan.
The more traditional costumes include dressing up as a ghost, the Grim Reaper, a pumpkin, a witch, a priest, and a bride. These are just some of the cool Halloween costumes that you can get for your child. Whatever your choice may be, make sure to do your Halloween costumes shopping early. Make your child remember this year’s Halloween celebrations. Don’t forget to take pictures of your kids – they will definitely love looking back and remembering how much fun Halloween was.

Here, you’ll learn two quick and simple ways to create your own mummy cupcake frosting.
Mummy Cupcake Butter-Cream Frosting
Ingredients:
400 grams softened butter
250 mL whipping cream
1 kg frosting sugar
2 tsps of vanilla extract
To prepare:
Cream softened butter inside a deep bowl until it is fluffy. Next, add in frosting sugar and continue blending. Then, stir in vanilla extract, whipping cream and salt. Using an electric mixer, beat on low speed, adding the remaining whipped cream if desired. Raise the speed to high until the frosting becomes a nice, soft fluff.
Mummy Cupcake Marshmallow Frosting
Ingredients:
50 grams small marshmallows
2 eggs
300 grams refined sugar
8 mL corn syrup
5 mL vanilla extract
80 mL cold water
To prepare:
Separate the eggwhites from the yolk. Inside a double boiler, mix the eggwhites, water, corn syrup & sugar. Next, blend well until is fully mixed. Place it over boiling water. While it is still cooking, turn the electric mixer on high then beat the mixture for approximately 7 minutes or until it stands in peaks. Remove from heat. Then, throw in marshmallows and vanilla. Mix well until the marshmallows melt. You now have your marshmallow frosting for your mummy cupcake.
You may want to use colored sugar for your cupcake creations. If, however, you have a hard time finding it in shops or want to save money, here’s a hint: You may create a cheaper version of colored sugar by putting a few tablespoonfuls of caster sugar and a few drops of food coloring of your choice in a small, plastic bag. Blend it well until the sugar changes color. Scatter on top of your frosted mummy cupcakes.
As another added tip, although mummy cupcakes can last up to 3-4 days as long as you store them inside an airtight container at cool temperature. But with the addition of these yummy frosting recipes, it’s already a no-brainer: You’ll really want to munch on these mummy cupcakes right away!
Hanging fake spider webs and creating your own lanterns is one way to decorate your house during Halloween. If you want to make something bigger or more life like, why not add a mummy?
To make one, you don’t have to buy a mannequin or an inflatable. You will need though a lot of newspaper since this will help make up the entire body.
When all the parts are ready, hold everything together using some tape then begin wrapping the mummy using bandages. The best ones to use are those used in the hospital. Since this is too expensive, you will have to substitute this with toilet paper instead. It is best to use the plain kind since people will probably laugh if they noticed that it has a flowery design.
Now that your mummy is ready, put this where there is a lot of traffic like beside the front door to your house or in the dining room.
If you want to scare people, put this in places where they don’t expect like the bathtub or the closet. If people ask where the toilet is, just give them the directions. The same goes if people come in and want to hang their coat then just wait until you hear a loud scream.
Another way of making a mummy will require adult size clothes for a large mummy and child size clothes for a small one. When you have it, lay these on the floor and start stuffing it using newspaper. If you notice, the end result will make your mummy look like a scarecrow.
For the hands of the mummy, get a pair of gloves then attach this to the arm then wrap this up using toilet paper or gauze. If you can spare an old white bed sheet which you can cut into strips, even better.
As for the head, try inflating a balloon or a gallon sized milk jug then put this near the collar of the shirt. Continue wrapping until you are also able to cover the mummy’s face. If you want to put some eyes, use black construction paper then glue this on the face.
While most mummies lie still, you can make your mummy different by letting it sit upright on a chair. One suggestion will be put the chair beside the table where the candies are.
Your life sized mummy will look great wherever you decide to put it. If the tissue, gauze or strips should come off just patch it up as fast as you can.
Although most mummies are color white, you can give it an aged appearance by using some spray paint. The two ideal colors to use for this are translucent beige and brown which you can easily buy from the craft store.
When Halloween is all over, take one last look at the mummy and then take it apart. Some of the stuff you use can be recycled for next year while the rest has to be thrown in the trash.
Now that you know how to make a life sized mummy, you can also use the toilet paper and gauze to create your own Halloween costume. If the two are identical, some people will think that they are talking to you when actually they are talking to a dummy.
A mummy Halloween costume can be made using inexpensive cheesecloth that can be ripped, cut up and dyed for authenticity. Add an Egyptian skirt for a great mummy look with helpful tips from a costu…
